LANGLEY, BC – (May 25, 2013) – The Langley Minor Hockey Association (LMHA) will be hosting a Memorial Skate and Fundraising event on Sunday, June 2, 2013, in support of the families of Austin Kingsborough and Brendan Wilson. On April 21, Kingsborough and Wilson went missing on Nicola Lake.  After the RCMP called off Search and Rescue efforts, the boys’ families hired a couple from Idaho to search the lake with specialized equipment.  The boys’ bodies were found on May 6.

The event will take place from 2:15-4:15 pm, at Sportsplex in Langley (20165 91A Ave).  Drop-in skating will be for a minimum $5 donation, which also earns an entry into a draw for a free 2013-2014 LMHA Player Registration. A BBQ, bottle drive, and silent auction will also help raise funds.  All proceeds from this event will go directly to the Kingsborough and Wilson families. Attendees are encouraged to bring photos of Austin and Brendan to be displayed on a photo wall, and then made into books for the families. Special guests from the greater hockey community will also be present.

“Austin and Brendan developed many close and long-lasting friendships within LMHA, and meant a great deal to many people in our minor hockey association.  Their loss has greatly affected many of our young people, specifically our Midget division,” said LMHA President Kevin Green,  “We are attempting to do our part to help the Kingsborough and Wilson families cover the cost of the search for the boys, and to help their closest friends continue to recover from their loss and pay tribute to their friends in the place where they all came together and shared so many memories…..on the ice.”

The Langley Minor Hockey Association is a proud member of BC Hockey and Hockey Canada.  For more information about this event, please visit our website at or contact Erinn at or 604.881.4408.
