The Surrey Falcons are extremely proud to announce the following Rep coach appointments for the 2022-2023 season.

U15 A1 – Riley Hanberg

Riley grew up playing AAA hockey with South Delta Minor Hockey association.  During this time he was an instructor at the South Delta Hockey school, was selected to the Canada Dry Midget “A” All-star tournament and was awarded the graduating scholarship by the South Delta Hockey Association.

After an eight year break to complete his Doctorate of Optometry he returned to the Lower Mainland and began coaching in minor soccer, baseball, softball and hockey.  His passion for hockey and developing young athletes has allowed him to coach with 25 different hockey teams over the last ten years ranging in age from U7 to U18 in the Cloverdale, Surrey Falcons and Vancouver Selects associations. This culminated last season coaching the Surrey Falcons U13A1 to a provincial championship.

He is known for his dedication to the players on his teams.  He believes minor sports are a microcosm in which our youth can develop and find purpose through team and individual goal setting and the passion and hard work required to achieve these goals.  He is excited to start the new season with the Surrey Falcons U15A1 team.

U13 A1 – Jag Bal

Jag grew up playing AAA hockey in Richmond and continued his playing career with the Richmond Sockeyes, as well as two seasons with the Chilliwack Chiefs of the BCHL.  Jag was also a referee in the Western Hockey League, CIS, and BCHL from 1995 to 2001.

Jag is also entering his 10th season as a scout in the Western Hockey League (WHL).  Jag is currently the Senior Scout and Recruiting Advisor for the Seattle Thunderbirds.

Jag’s coaching career began in 1995 and he has coached with the Surrey Falcons for the past 9 seasons including winning a provincial championship 2017.

U11 C1 – Tom Spencer

Tom grew up playing minor hockey in Pickering, ON.  He moved to BC in 2003 and has been developing youth hockey players every year since.  Most of Tom’s coaching has been in the BC Major Midget League where he was named coach of the year in 2014. During this time Tom was selected through BC Hockey’s High Performance program and coached multiple times at the U16 and U17 BC Cup selections. He then spent a season with the Surrey Eagles Jr A; then transitioned to the SFU Men’s hockey team for 3 years.  The past 5 seasons have been back at the grass roots levels with time spent coaching at Cloverdale Minor H1-4 and last season was his first with the Falcons as Asst Coach with the U11 C1 team.

Further coaching appointments will be released as we approach the new season…

Thank you,
